Are you ready for a career in the welding industry?
The McCann Technical School Adult Education Program, in collaboration with the MassHire Berkshire Career Center and the Commonwealth Corporation, is offering a free 200-hour welding training program with credentials and career placement assistance. Our CTI welding program will provide students with industry training and hands-on experience learning today’s welding techniques.

Welding program dates: March 2 – May 28, 2026
200-hour hands on training
Monday – Thursday 3:15pm – 7:15pm
Students who are able to pass various welding qualification tests will receive certifications to the following codes:
- American Welding Society D1.1, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in all positions
- American Welding Society D1.1, Flux-Cored Arc Welding in all positions
- American Society of Mechanical Engineering Section IV, SMAW in positions 1G and 2G
Certifications:
- OSHA-10
- Hot Works
Eligibility Criteria:
- Un/underemployed (up to $21.50/hour or $44,700/year)
- Massachusetts Resident
- Authorized to work in the US
- 18 years of age by completion of training
- High School Diploma or its equivalent (HiSET/GED)
**Interested trainees are encouraged to bring proof of eligibility with them**
What Documentation will I need?
To be eligible for CTI funding, you must meet the following criteria and provide proof. Note that in many cases, one document can prove multiple criteria. In certain cases, you may self-attest to prove eligibility (never for Work Authorization). Here are the categories and some examples that can be used as proof.
Aged 18+ upon completion of the training, typical documents include:
- Driver’s License or State ID Card
- Passport
- Employment Authorization Card (I-766) or Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
Massachusetts Resident, typical documents include:
- MA Driver’s License or State ID Card
- Utility Bill dated in last 3 months
- Government mail received in the past 60 days
- Bank Statement
- Lease agreement
- Home or auto insurance
Authorized to Work in the U.S., typical documents include:
- US Passport or Passport Card
- US Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Permanent Resident Card (I-551) or Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
Unemployed / Underemployed.
Unemployed: Proof of collecting unemployment, such as

- Letter of unemployment verification
- Screenshot of unemployment insurance account.
- Tax form (eg. 1040 form)
Underemployed: earning <$21.50 per hour working full time or $44,700 annually.

- A minimum of 1 pay stub from last 6 months
- Direct Deposit records
- Tax Forms such as IRS 1040
- Offer Letter/Employer Letter
- Proof of income based public benefits (TANF, SNAP, SSI, SSDI).
